The University Lecturers Series: Dr. Bill Smedick

The University Lecturers Series  in partnership with the College of Education, Department of Counseling, Leadership, Adult Education, & School Psychology, and the Dean of Students Office presents a guest lecture by Dr. Bill Smedick from Johns Hopkins University.  The session is entitled Social Innovation, Experiential Education, and Social Justice in Higher Education and will take place Thursday, September 29th from 3:00-4:30pm in LBJ Student Center room 3-9.1.

Currently Dr. Smedick is a Senior Lecturer and Director of the Master’s in Engineering Management Internship Program in the Center for Leadership Education within the Whiting School of Engineering. He teaches courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at Johns Hopkins and has been involved in leadership education at the university since 1989. He currently teaches Leadership Theory and Leading for Social Change in the Center for Leadership Education.

Additionally, Dr. Smedick serves as a Consultant for Kathleen Allen Associates, providing student affairs program reviews, curriculum design and professional coaching. He has served in various community and professional association leadership roles, including Chairperson of the Board of Directors for the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) and Member of the Board of Directors for the Counsel for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS). He was awarded a Kappa Alpha Theta Outstanding Faculty Award for the 2015-2016 year for his inspiration to “his students to achieve their personal best and make a positive impact in their community and beyond, all while fueling their intellectual curiosity and becoming a socially conscious leader.”

Dr. Smedick previously served as the Assistant Director of Student Development at Southwest Texas State University in the Division of Student Affairs from 1984-1987, where he advised Student Foundation, Student Government, and was responsible for fraternity and sorority life, and general administration for student organizations.
